Back Hispanic Ministry hosts nearly 200 at Brentwood Baptist during Hispanic Sunday School Conference
August 26th, 2010
We don't give as much attention to the Hispanic Ministry as we should. But the fact is this: this growing, thriving ministry, under the umbrella of the Brentwood Baptist Missions Ministry, is reaching large numbers of Hispanic people in middle Tennessee—both connected and unconnected.
Last Saturday, August 21, they hosted a Hispanic Sunday School Conference here at Brentwood Baptist for 129 adult Sunday School leaders from 14 different churches, including 68 children in childcare (birth to 11 years old). Partnering alongside Nashville Baptist Association, LifeWay Christian Resources, and Tennessee Baptist Convention, they offered training and teaching to the participants.
Ramon and Rosa Martinez, originally from Cuba, lead the Brentwood Baptist Hispanic Ministry. Retired from LifeWay, they also work with a church plant in Franklin, Iglesia de las Americas, and helped mastermind this effort for Hispanic leaders across Tennessee.
Ramon said, "We opened the doors for a state-wide conference to train Sunday School leaders in outreach, teaching, and ministry. Classes were offered for pastors, general leaders, and adult, student, children, and preschool teachers. National specialists from LifeWay led the sessions. We saw this ministry of our church in action."
Scott Harris, Brentwood Baptist Missions Minister, said, "Usually, leaders come to this from the east and west without reservations. This is a great opportunity for our Hispanic churches to see the need of Bible study and to reach out to their communities."
Each week, two Hispanic Sunday School classes meet at Brentwood Baptist and more than 60 Hispanic adults and children call this church home. Translators are needed on Sundays during the 11:00 a.m. worship service. To volunteer with this ministry, click here to contact Ramon Martinez.
