Christmas Food Baskets: 10 Reasons You Should Sign Up

By Vicki Howell, Community Missions Minister

It’s that time again—the most wonderful time of the year! You can probably smell the Thanksgiving and Christmas warming up in your own kitchen as the season changes and the holidays appear.

Thousands of people in Middle Tennessee will go hungry this year as they continue to strive to find ways to take care of their everyday lives. But we have a chance give them the same experience we get to have, playing a small but significant role in showing them Christ through the heart of provision and love.

So here are 10 reasons you should sign up to purchase, pack, or deliver Christmas Food Baskets…

  1. Provide warm meals during the holidays for families all over the Nashville area who wouldn’t have them otherwise.

  2. Share time together with your family as you deliver boxes and get to know some of the families you’re ministering to.

  3. Last year, Brentwood Baptist families purchased and delivered approximately 650 boxes to local families in need. The need is just as great this year.

  4. You’re not just reaching one population. You’re reaching communities in need, truly showing Christ’s love to the nations living in Middle Tennessee.

  5. It takes a village. One person can’t do it all—nor should do it all. We’re called as a community of believers to reach out and serve.

  6. In each box, you’ll find turkey, milk, bread, fruit, veggies, staples, and items that will last far beyond one day. Also included is a Bible, homemade card (a gift from our Children’s ministry), worship CD, and more. We want to care for people in three ways: physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

  7. This is a welcome, safe way for you to answer with the gospel of Jesus Christ when people you deliver to ask, “What’s so different about you that you would want to care for me?”

  8. With just one box, you can provide for one person or an entire family. ALL are welcome and needed.

  9. There’s no kitchen clean-up (i.e. you don’t have to cook)! Publix is already working hard to gather the contents we need for these boxes.

  10. Fill in the blank with your own reason. There are so many ways to serve through this missions project. Please contact us and tell us what happens as you serve. We’d love to hear your stories.

The season is already underway and you’re a part of the story. We can’t wait to see how God continues to use Brentwood Baptist families and Christmas Food Boxes in 2014!
