This Week's Message
Excess
Luke 12:13-21
This week, we begin an 8-week series called Enough. We'll ask the question, "How much is enough?" This series isn't about money. Money isn't the problem. How much we have or don't have isn't the question. The ache in our souls is the issue.
Augustine, the early church philosopher and theologian, wrote, "Our souls are restless until they find rest in Thee." That restlessness, that deep ache that all of us have, is what this new series is about. God has designed each of us with, as one theologian described it, a "God-shaped void" that can only be filled by Him. Whatever else we place in this void only makes us miss God more.
In our culture, this ache has been hijacked to fuel a hyper consumerism that's almost destroyed us-not to mention our entire economy. We were created for a relationship with God-not with stuff. And in this relationship with God, we find out two life-changing things: our God is enough and, in Him, we're enough.
