This past week, during "Welcome Week" at Belmont University, more than 1,300 new freshmen drove up to the campus to begin a new chapter in their lives—their college careers. On Saturday, when it all began, 19 Kairos members met up at the infamously growing university to move them into their new homes.

From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Kairos worked in the afternoon heat to relieve nervous parents and anxious new students of the added stress that comes with jumping into this new adventure.

Meredith Graham, Kairos Administrative Assistant and coordinator for the event, said, "Parents weren't even allowed to help us. We unloaded their cars in a strategic manner and carried it up to their rooms in a new dorm on campus—everything from refrigerators to guitars and suitcases to bedding."

Standing out from the rest of the crowd in their bright blue shirts with the Kairos name, members got asked by new students who they were and what they were doing there. Meredith said, "It was our way of getting people's attention and talking with them. They were so appreciative to not have to carry in their kid's stuff. Sometimes it's more of a ministry for the parents than the students."

On Sunday, Belmont hosted a "Church Fair" that featured churches and ministries from all over the city. With so many Belmont students already attending Kairos, it was a good collaboration with the university—a way to introduce students to a prospective place of worship in Brentwood.

"Most of the students at Belmont aren't from here. They're from all over the country," Meredith said. "I personally think it's fun because I love college students—especially freshman because they're nervous and I've been there. I can tell them that it's going to be OK and they're going to love college. The whole weekend was an amazing ministry outreach to new students near Kairos."
