Kairos News Upcoming class helps young adults find their place in life
February 2nd, 2012

Have you found your place in life?
Do you know what makes you tick?
Why do you respond the way you do?
Do you connect with some people and not others?
Why do you love doing some things in life more than the rest?
Most people can't answer these questions. They don't know their purpose, how they're wired, what their gifts are, and where they're supposed to be serving in life.
Lucky you! Kairos has adopted a ministry that can help you find these answers and track down the purpose and plan God has for your life as a result. Beginning Monday, February 6 at 6:00 p.m. at Brentwood Baptist, Kairos will host a two-night PLACE Class led by Michele Dyer.
The PLACE Ministry is designed to help you discover how God created you to function—including your unique personality, spiritual gifts, abilities, passions, and experiences. Then, personal ministry coaches spend one-on-one time helping you discover that place in life and ministry.
Stephen Fairchild, Kairos Small Groups Minister, said, "Anybody can come! But you have to sign up because you have to take a test first. Not the scary kind. Embedded in the testing lies the answers about your passions and gifts. If you know who you are, then you can discover where you need to be in life."
Ashlyne Huff took PLACE through Kairos last fall to complete her membership at Brentwood Baptist. In preparation, she took the assessments and discovered a new her.
"At first, I thought: OK, I'm a C personality. Now what? My spiritual gift is administration? How does that qualify as a spiritual gift? [My PLACE coach] helped me clarify," she said. "Not only did I understand myself better with all these words to define who I'd always been but couldn't pin down, but I also learned more about the other people who had different personality types, gifts, and abilities."
PLACE doesn't just help you understand you. It helps you understand the people in your life and relationships—your parents, friends, siblings, spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc.
"It's not enough to understand yourself. You have to start understanding that, while God made you to be you, He also hard-wired others to be themselves," Ashlyne said. "In PLACE, I learned to appreciate those relationships even more because I could identify what made them tick, what turned them off, and what hurt them. With that knowledge, I feel closer to those I love…and more aware of what I need to work on as a woman of God."
Ashlyne now encourages others to take the steps to discover what she did through PLACE. Her relationships have improved. Her path is clearer. And her sense of self is defined.
"I may technically be an adult, but this class helped me start acting, thinking, and feeling like one," Ashlyne said. "I feel proud of who I am, of my gifts, and I know the environment I work best in. Now, I can get to work and start reaching my potential."
