MONDAY, JULY 1

It was a full day.

We started at FEMA, organizing supplies. Then, we moved into the neighborhood within Moore—the one that was demolished by the tornado. That's when reality hit. That's when we saw what really happened on May 19.

Homes flattened. Possessions piled a mile high. And residents digging through it all to find the last few salvageable things that might remain.

At first, our team split up. One team removed debris from a man's heaped-up home. Another team did yard work for a local pastor whose home was badly damaged.

When the team gathered together again in the afternoon, it was to help a recently widowed woman whose house and contents were thrown into her neighbors yard.

Ms. Carol had $35,000 worth of uninsured jewelry she wanted to retrieve buried beneath—her wedding rings being one piece of the lot. Rakes and shovels scraped through the rubble for hours.

At the end of the day, one ring and bracelet were recovered. It may not seem like much, but how we ministered, loved, and served Ms. Carol was priceless. She said so.

The last stop of the day was to the site where Plaza Towers Elementary once stood—the place where seven children lost their lives. It was humbling, moving.

Our team silently prayed around the chain-linked fence surrounding the area. We paid our respects, worked hard, loved well, and left our mark behind, telling Moore, Oklahoma the Christians were here.
